FASIA (THE BERLIN VERSION)
The audio work FASIA is dedicated to the singer-songwriter Fasia Jansen (1929-1997). FASIA is Part I of the installation BLACK LIVES AUDIO TRIPTYCH. It uncovers traces of the history of Black people in Germany who were part of the workers movement and is a multidirectional reminder of past and present anti-racist struggles.
Ina Wudtke wrote the text for Fasia’s fictional audio self-portrait based on her posthumously published autobiographical notes (Marina Achenbach, Fasia, geliebte Rebellin, published by the Fasia Jansen Stiftung, Oberhausen, ASSO Verlag, 2004).
The narrator who brings Fasia to life in the work is Jasmin Eding, who belongs to a group of Black queer women who advocate for the rights and visibility of Black people in Germany. She founded ADEFRA (Black Women in Germany) with others in the 1980s.
