BLACK LIVES AUDIO TRIPTYCH

The work BLACK LIVES AUDIO TRIPTYCH uncovers traces of Black history in Germany and recalls past and present anti-racist struggles in a multidirectional way. The work activates archival material such as songs, texts, and photos by Fasia Jansen (1929–1997), Hilarius Gilges (1909–1933), and Joseph Ekwe Bilé (1892–1959), who were active in the context of the labor movement against racism and colonialism in Germany.

The choice of the speakers, Jasmin Eding (Fasia), Kofie Boachie aka Kofie da Vibe (Hilarius Gilges), and Jeanne-Ange Wagne (Joseph Ekwe Bilé), was determined to a large extent by their current social engagement, which could be seen as a continuation of the protagonist’s political work as a means of coming to terms with the present. Part of the work involves discussion events with the speakers, the artist or other guests such as curator Natasha A. Kelly.
