The Red 1 Mark Novels

During her research on the tradition of worker writers, Ina Wudtke got interested in the history of the so-called Red 1 Mark Novels. These novels were designed as an antidote to the dime novels that were produced by gentry lables for the workers. Marxist newspapers of the 1920s coined the workers correspondence movement. Workers were called to send in texts about their working and housing conditions. Initially they were released as novel series in newspapers. Between 1930 and 1933 they were finally released as well priced paperbacks in the Red 1 Mark Novels series.
